Licensing scope
The release uses two unmodified standard licenses, with their complete terms incorporated by reference. LICENSE identifies each scope.
| Material | Terms |
|---|---|
| Prolog, Python, generated shape schema, test runner, workflow and site presentation code | PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 |
| Prose, prompts, diagrams and fictional example content | CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 |
| Third-party dependencies and linked source material | Their own terms |
The code is source-available with a noncommercial restriction. This release does not describe that restriction as an open-source license.
What the standard terms say
PolyForm Noncommercial permits noncommercial purposes, including specified personal uses without anticipated commercial application. It also permits uses by listed charitable, educational, public research, public safety/health, environmental and government organizations regardless of funding obligations. It provides distribution and modification permissions subject to its terms. [3 MODERATE | complete standard terms]
CC BY-NC-SA permits sharing and adaptation with attribution, noncommercial purpose and its ShareAlike conditions. Commercial advantage or monetary compensation is relevant to its definition of NonCommercial; the question is not simply whether the user has a salary or belongs to a company. [3 MODERATE | complete legal code]
Creative Commons recommends software-specific licenses for software and permits its licenses to be used for documentation and separate artistic content. That is why this release separates code from authored content. [3 MODERATE | CC FAQ]
Project position
The public release offers no commercial license. Selling this package as a consulting product is contrary to the project’s stated position. Commercial reuse of the licensed files is not granted by the noncommercial public terms. Whether a particular use is covered is governed by the actual license and law, not by a one-line summary or the author’s opinion about the user.
The author applies the same noncommercial discipline as a project policy. That statement is not a custom restriction added to the standard licenses, and it does not pretend to remove powers the law gives a rights holder. A later paid licensing offer would be a substantive reversal of this release’s position.
The distinction matters: a criticism of commercialization is an ethical argument. A copyright license supplies defined permissions and conditions. It does not prove that a profession is evil or automatically erase an organization’s premise.
Limits
The package does not claim ownership of every idea resembling its method. As one primary legal reference, the U.S. Copyright Office distinguishes copyright in expression from unprotected ideas, systems and methods. This is a U.S. reference, not a determination of every jurisdiction’s law. [3 MODERATE | Copyright Office FAQ]
Quotation, legal exceptions and public-domain material remain governed by law and the standard terms. Third-party rights are not removed by this project. No blanket promise of enforceability in every country is made.
Attribution and changes
Credit Maciej Jankowski, The Zizkian, and the version used. Preserve the license references and Required Notice lines. Mark changes and the terms of separately licensed material. Do not imply the philosopher, author or original project endorses a derivative. Follow the actual terms, including applicable attribution and ShareAlike obligations, rather than treating this summary as a replacement.
The rationale and strongest objections are in the licensing polemic.
