How this preserves the font
The coloured paths guide a moving mask over the original letter shapes. They do not replace the font with a generic line. Each letter has its own mask, so a long flourish cannot reveal the next letter early. Within a letter, use Intersections to restrict each pass to a band with its own angle and width. A self-crossing loop has separate passes. The circle sets the area affected by that band.
The starting paths are inferred suggestions, not the font designer's recorded pen movements. Repeated letters share a trace. Dots and crossbars have their own place in the stroke list. Exported SVGs play once when opened in a browser.
